We didn’t set out to “fix” mealtimes.
We were just trying to get through them.
There was a period where every meal felt heavy. Not dramatic-heavy — just that slow, draining kind of hard. The kind where you sit your child down, hopeful, and within moments you’re already on your feet again. Picking up a bowl. Wiping food off the floor. Reattaching a suction plate for the fifth time.
The Tripp Trapp had always been part of our home. We loved how it grew with our child, how solid and timeless it felt. But one thing we didn’t expect was how frustrating the tray would become once suction bowls entered the picture.
No matter what brand we tried, nothing stayed put.
Meals became short. Messy. Disconnected.
And instead of eating with our child, we were constantly reacting to them.
I remember thinking how strange it was that something so small could completely change the mood at the table.
The slow build-up
At first, we brushed it off.
“They’ll grow out of it.”
“Mess is normal.”
“This is just part of parenting.”
And yes — all of that is true.
But there’s a difference between accepting mess and feeling like every meal is a mini battle you brace yourself for.
We didn’t need perfection. We just wanted calm. A few minutes where food stayed where it was meant to be. A chance for our child to focus long enough to actually eat. A chance for us to sit down too.
A quiet shift
When we added a smooth tray surface to our Tripp Trapp, we weren’t expecting much. It wasn’t a big decision. Just one of those small changes you try because you’re a bit tired and hopeful at the same time.
But something shifted.
The suction bowl stayed.
Our child stayed calmer.
And suddenly, meals felt less rushed.
There was no big “wow” moment — just a gentle sense that things were easier. And honestly, that mattered more.
Why we’re sharing this
We’re not sharing this because it’s a must-have.
We’re sharing because parenting is full of moments where you wonder if you’re doing something wrong — when really, the setup just isn’t working for your family.
If you’re feeling worn down by mealtimes, or quietly frustrated that something should work but doesn’t, you’re not alone. And sometimes, a tiny adjustment is enough to give you a bit of breathing room again.
This was one of those adjustments for us.
And if it helps even one other family sit down and exhale a little at the table, then it feels worth telling our story 🤍
For us, that small adjustment ended up being a smooth surface high chair tray designed to work with the Tripp Trapp — suction-friendly, BPA-free, and quietly doing its job in the background.
